Acupuncture for the Menopause
The menopause occurs when there is a change in hormone levels that affect periods and can cause acute menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes and night sweats.
Symptoms can be wide ranging from vaginal dryness, tiredness, sleep disturbances, mood swings, forgetfulness and loss of libido (Melby 2005; Bachmann 1999).
The most commonly used conventional medical treatment for such symptoms is hormone replacement therapy (HRT). This is not a suitable treatment for all women and neither is long term use recommended.
Research shows that acupuncture is at least as effective and often superior to conventional treatment with few contraindications or unpleasant side effects.
" Jo worked wonders with my hot flushes! It took about 6 sessions but my menopaual systems have dissapeared. She has studied the menopause and was able to treat me for the menopuase type I am. I would recommend anyone to Jo. Her approach is friendly, caring and professional. Thank you so much jo! I owe you big time." Melanie, Brighton
