Hayfever in Brighton and Hove

The condition can cause a wide variety of symptoms including itchy, red and watery eyes, sneezing, blocked nose and nasal drip. It can also cause and itchy or sore throat and lethargy.

It can be a debilitating and irritating problem which happens every year usually around May or June and then again in September.

Conventional treatment includes antihistamines which may have unwanted side effects such as tiredness.

Research published in 2009 (Xiao) suggests that acupuncture and moxibustion (a warming herb) may be a safe and effective treatment for allergic rhinitis. It could havebenefits over conventional medicine as side effects are extremely rare.

Acupuncture can provide immediate relief from symptoms during an attack. It  may also be possible to get rid of hayfever altogether by having treatment in October and November, prior to the next season.

Recent Hayfever Results

''Today I didn't sneeze.  After weeks of hay-fever, itching, sneezing and lethargy a few pins have saved the day/week/month/summers nod I now feel myself again. And my sinuses now have airflow rather than continuous drip.''
K, Brighton June 2014

''I have been a hayfever sufferer since I was 18 and after one session with the lovely Jo and her magic needles yesterday, my symptoms have virtually disappeared. An absolute saviour as breast feeding means no medication this summer and it was making me miserable until today. Thank you Jo''

Testimonials

Jo is a fantastic practitioner - she really cares about her patients and has a very warm, approachable personality. She has improved a very stubborn ongoing skin  problem which did not respond to conventional medicine.'' Helen, Brighton

I hadn't slept properly for over a year and after just one treatment with Jo  I have  been sleeping soundly. I was sceptical of what acupuncture could do for me and delighted with the result." Daphne, Brighton

''Being new to acupuncture, I was relieved to be put at ease by Jo’s kind nature. I was there as Western medicine had not helped my neuropathic pain. I found Jo easy to talk in the first consultation, and the treatment itself was rather relaxing. That night I slept amazingly and absolutely astoundingly- the next day I found the pain had disappeared. I have had a couple of subsequent treatments that have also been successful, and I continue to see Jo for different reasons like I would a GP. Due to acupuncture being a whole medicine system, through treatments and consultation with Jo I now even understand my body and myself a bit more! I couldn’t recommend Jo more highly.'' Carla, Brighton
